Four parents/coaches and one swimmer from the club took part in the British Gas Great North Swim in Windermere on the weekend of 18th & 19th June raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the local Scouts.

Based at Low Wood Bay near Ambleside, nearly 6,000 swimmers, including former Olympians completed the one mile  open water course over the week-end.

Coaches Nicky Walsh & Karen Hulme finished in the top 5% of all competitors with times of 26mins 41secs & 28mins 26 secs respectively.

Bob Thompson & Dawn Corlett were both competing in their first Open Water swim and finished with respectable times of 38mins & 44mins.  Commenting on the race Bob said that it was much tougher than I thought it would be; no amount of training in the pool can prepare you for it, particularly the first 150 metres, when you've got 300 competitors all entering the water at the same time, jostling for position.  But once I got into my stride I really enjoyed it and the thrill on passing the finishing line was tremendous.  I've definitely caught the open water swimming bug!

Anna Hulme (12) was one of the youngest competitors to take part in the half mile race finishing in a time of 15mins 56secs 47th out of 183 competitors.
